We Are Not Entrapped in Bad History

Tonight I want to remind each of you that we are not entrapped in bad history. Nor are we prisoners of history. We have both the power and agency to imagine a more evolved and fuller life and the will to bring it into being. In my estimation, this is the ultimate expression of freedom. Yet we put chains on our freedom and become the jailers who place handcuffs on our lives.

Tonight let us rejoice in our capacity to claim and shape our lives. As the great freedom worker, Dorothy Cotton, reminded us “ no one can ride us if our backs are not bent.” Stand tall in the fullest of your beauty and power. Imagine yourselves as I imagine you- standing tall with your feet on the ground and your head upright towards the mountain top.
